The Great Controversy Over for Angels?
What do you think? Has that question even come to mind before?
Well in this book “Living fountains or Broken Cisterns” E. A. Sutherland shares many a profound point, but one in particular is clearly depicted in chapter 2 - The Heavenly School.
We are brought into the picture of Heaven itself. Here is where the story of warfare, the battle, yes a Great Controversy between God and Lucifer (later Satan) begins.
Lucifer, “light bearer” thought that not only he but everyone could be good without God and His law of love. At the time this Covering Cherub, Protector of the Mercy Seat, and of the the Law, right in the presence of God, in the midst of His glory, choose to leave his exalted position to start an argument against God, but mostly against Jesus. Lucifer didn’t like the truth, the truth that Jesus is one with the Father, that they work together in counsel, that everything that had been made, had been done so by the Son.
So before this warfare came to this world, Lucifer, “once light bearer” but now Satan, “deceiver, murderer & thief”, stood in opposition to Christ, in envy of his position and power. So on page 14 we see that “All the heavenly host were summoned to appear before the Father to have each case decided.” “About the throne gathered the holy angels, a vast, unnumbered throng-‘ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands, ‘-the most exalted angels as ministers and subjects, rejoicing in the light that fell upon them from the presence of the Deity.”
And after long pleadings for Lucifer and the angels following him, to turn back to God were eventually unheeded, we are told “A new era was ushered in; a controversy was begun. High heaven, with its eternal principles of love, life, progress, was challenged by a subtle foe, the father of lies.”
Some often ask, but what about Satan? Didn’t he have a chance to change?
“An offer was made to return, but pride now closed the channel. Pity admiration for the leader of the hosts led many to feel that God was unjustly severe. The universe was off trial....”
Why has their trial ended? Because they all made a choice.
Their trial ended, but when Adam and Eve took the fruit, our trial began.
Revelation 12:12
Therefore rejoice, ye heavens, and ye that dwell in them. Woe to the inhabiters of the earth and of the sea! for the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knoweth that he hath but a short time.
Satans choice, the fallen angels choice, the holy angels choice, they have all been made. But now the choice is yours and Satan wants to take it from you. For if you choose to Believe and Obey Jesus, you will have all that Satan choose to leave and he knows it. The question is, Do you?
